Keratin Bond Extensions: KTips

Please take the time to read over all of this information before setting up an appointment to have your hair extensions installed. These are all tips and tricks to keep your own hair in good condition and allow it to grow freely while wearing extensions. These extensions come in with heat so they can come out with heat which means you need to be very careful when heat styling your hair.

Important Do’s:

  1. DO wash your scalp gently with the pads of your fingers 

  2. DO dry your hair after washing 

  3. DO be gentle with your hair if wearing a bun or ponytail, if there is any pain of discomfort your style is too tight 

  4. DO hold your hair at the base when brushing

Things you will need:

Shampoo: use salon-quality clarifying or volumizing  shampoo. 

Conditioner: use a lightweight, hydrating conditioner 

Leave ins: use a leave in on the mid and ends of your hair before brushing and serum  to keep the hair hydrated 

Hair brush: use a metal bristle brush to help detangle your hair without pulling: do not use natural bristles 

Hairdryer: drying your hair is key!

Day to day routine:

Washing your hair extensions: 

Brush hair gently and apply 1 pump of oil to the ends of the hair before shampooing. This will help avoid tangling after the shower. Hair is like a sponge, if it’s full of good moisture it won’t be able to soak up pollutants in the water 

Wash your hair standing in the shower, never in the bath or upside down. Keep the attachments at natural fall. 

First, rinse hair thoroughly before shampooing to remove buildup. Wash scalp gently with the pads of your fingers, gently exfoliating your scalp. Do not scrub in round motions this may cause tangling ! Remember healthy hair starts at a healthy scalp!! Shampoo hair no less than every 3-4 days. Keep your scalp clean and without excess oil buildup. 

Treat your scalp like your face, hair can out grow properly if you have a dirty scalp clogged with oil and product.

Drying your hair extensions:

  • Always dry your hair after washing. 

  • Do not leave hair wet 

  • Squeeze water out of extensions do not rub together 

  • If you’re going to air dry ensure you bloody the root thoroughly first 

  • Use a metal brush only natural bristles will cause too much tension

Brushing your hair extensions: 

Brush gently starting fro the ends and work your way up, never start brushing your hair at the root. Hold hair at the base(scalp) flat palm on your head to reduce tension when brushing 

Styling your hair extensions;

Be gentle with your hair. If wearing a bun or ponytail style. Looser styles are ideal especially when they allow your hair and extensions to lay in natural fall.

Caution !!

  • Avoid heat at the root or the base of the extensions. 

  • Excessive heat too close to your extension bonds will ruin your hair extensions 

  • Blow dryers should be held at least 10-12 inches away from the root at a medium heat 

Activities:

  • If you are going on vacation, in a pool, in an ocean, working out…etc we advise you to loosely braid your extensions for the duration of the activity. 

  • As soon as you’re done with an activity, take your hair down apply a serum and thoroughly wash and dry your hair 

  • Never leave your hair in a wet braid or bun 

  • Leaving hair up while wet for a period of time will cause tangling and loosen your extensions 

  • Never go on a boat ride, In a convertible or any other windy scenario without your hair in a braid to prevent matting

The average person for a full head of KTip extensions will require about 5 bundles of hair 

What to expect for the day of your keratin extension install: 

  1. We will begin with clarifying your hair with a shampoo throughly 2 times to remove any and all buildup in the hair. We will follow with no conditioner to ensure we can get a great adhesion the your natural hair 

  2. We will blow dry your hair nice and smooth for a clean application 

  3. We will use a small keratin bond tool to apply your extensions 

  4. We will begin in the center of your hair and all bonds are placed 2 fingers width away from the hairline 

  5. Your keratin bond is place in a 1/4”x 1/4” section 

  6. The ktip will be applied underneath that section of your hair 

  7. We will gently close the bond tool securing the the keratin bond to  your hair 

  8. An at home care and maintenance routine will be so important for the success of your extensions 

  9. You will be asked to not wash your hair for the first 24-48 hours of your install
